Drobac highlighted four areas that policymakers should address as states consider new AI sandbox legislation in 2027: defining the clinical operating domain for AI systems, establishing appropriate levels of autonomy, clarifying accountability, and determining monitoring requirements, including safeguards related to patient protections and bias.
The Coalition to Advance State AI Sandboxes is supporting state frameworks that allow health care AI solutions to be tested in supervised environments before broader deployment. The Coalition is aiming for five additional states to enact AI sandbox legislation in 2027.
